Every afternoon, when the school day ends, a critical window of time begins. In America today, 7.6 million children spend those hours alone and unsupervised. For many children who live in marginalized communities across America, that time can shape the direction of their future. Without a safe and stable place to go, they face significant risks, including unhealthy environments, missed learning opportunities, and falling behind in school.

Child Thrive opens its doors to change. CPA’s community center in Chicago’s West Humboldt Park neighborhood provides children and families with a warm and encouraging space to learn and grow. We partner with KIPP Schools and local organizations to offer activities after school, during school breaks, and special summer programs that keep youth safe, supported, and engaged.

You support provides youth mentoring, trauma counseling, support groups, wellness activities, and family engagement; all of which foster confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging.

“I cannot say enough great things about the Child Thrive Program. Watching my son Caileb get excited to go and upset if he missed a day or had to leave early is truly heartwarming. Child Thrive not only provides enriching activities for the children but also cares for the whole family. I love and adore the staff. Their passion and dedication make all the difference.” – Darrina Mines

On October 23, communities across the country will celebrate Lights On Afterschool. More than 8,000 programs nationwide will highlight how afterschool and summer learning programs help kids continue learning and thrive. Here at Child Thrive, CPA will celebrate with Thrive Family Night, bringing together families, neighbors, and partners who make this work possible.

Your support keeps these spaces alive and keeps the lights on for kids who need them most.

I see the difference every single day when children walk through our doors. Their smiles grow bigger, their confidence grows stronger, and their futures grow brighter—because you believe in their potential. Thank you for standing with them.

With gratitude,
