  17 Years of Caring: 1991-2008

In August 1991, a small crowd gathered in front of a greystone house in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood. They had come to tour a stately turn-of-the-century building that had just undergone a major renovation.

But this occasion was no ordinary home tour. It was, in fact, the grand opening of the Midwest's first residential facility dedicated to the care of HIV/AIDS-affected children. And it was also the launch of a brand new charitable organization, The Children's Place Association.

The greystone home continues to offer around-the-clock nursing care and other specialized treatment for children who have been separated from their families. They include children who are themselves HIV infected or AIDS diagnosed, those whose parents are ill from HIV/AIDS-related conditions, as well as children with other life-threatening or serious illnesses, such as cancer.

Since 1991, The Children's Place Association has touched the lives of more than 1,300 children.
